Effective teaching and learning of science involves seeing and using real objects and materials. If students gain just theoretical knowledge in classrooms, learning is less effective. Students who observe the process and understand the relationship between action and reaction are more able to apply their knowledge to new situations. Working in groups to perform tasks also gives them the opportunity to listen, communicate ideas, cooperate with and learn from their peers.
ICS has 5 fully equipped Science Labs that are used by students for all their science lessons. All students in years 7 to 11 take science lessons that cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In years 12 and 13, students can continue their Science journey if they opt to take an A-Level in a science subject. Experiments are safely conducted by all ages of student with older students being expected to build on previous experience and deal with more complex equipment. Each year ICS invests in the science labs so that students are exposed to new experiments and more learning opportunities.
