Our School

Mark Cripps, Principal

ICS is without doubt one of the most international of international schools in the Middle East with over 55 different nationalities represented among our Kindergarten to Year 13 cohort of 725 students. Whilst we have both Primary and Secondary, generalist and specialist teachers working with us, we strongly believe that in order to provide our students with the best possible educational experience we have to work closely as a team. The main focus at ICS is effective learning and teaching and we strongly believe that the basis of excellent practice and pedagogy is the same for all students regardless of age, phase or year group. Thus if you are really serious about coming to join the ICS you will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues right across the school. We are also highly committed to continual professional development.

The other important thing you need to know is that the word Community in the ICS title very accurately describes the philosophy and culture of our school. ICS is a school with a big heart. This is not only reflected in the fact that we donate 40% of our fundraising to local charities but as a teacher you can also expect a very warm welcome from students and parents; plus excellent support and camaraderie from your professional colleagues.
You may be wondering about life in Jordan - I certainly was when I arrived with my wife and 4 year old son. However I am pleased to be able to inform you that Jordan has fast become one of my favourite places in the world to live and work. There are fabulous travel opportunities with several world heritage sites (including Petra which has also been voted one of the new seven wonders of the world) and in less than 40 minutes you can also be lounging by a pool in one of the many Dead Sea resorts.

In addition you have easy access to the port of Aqaba and the glorious Red Sea just three hours away, and some of the world’s most well-preserved Roman ruins, crusader forts and famous biblical sites. I truly believe you will find that Jordan is a one of the most fascinating places on earth. However the real magic about Jordan has to be its people. Wherever you travel in the Royal Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan you will find a warmth and graciousness rarely found in other parts of the world.

Finally it is worth mentioning that the financial package offered to our staff is highly competitive and includes a tax free salary, end of contract bonus, free furnished accommodation and free education for any children. In addition we provide annual flights, baggage allowance and free medical cover for you and your family. The cost of living in Jordan is considerably lower than many other places in the world and therefore as a teacher at ICS you will not only be able to save but also make the most of the generous school holiday entitlement.
