ICS Counselling Corner

Meet the School Counsellor

Hi! My name is Christine Shepherd, and I am excited to be part of the ICS wellbeing team. I am a trained counsellor in both school counselling and mental health counselling from the United States. I have lived overseas for almost ten years, practising counselling through private practice and through humanitarian work. I received my Masters in Counselling degree in 2008. I am a Certified Trauma Practitioner through the USA National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children, and I am currently in the final stages of the accreditation process for both Professional School Counselling and Mental Health Counselling in the United States.

How will the School Counsellor improve the wellbeing of the students at ICS?

As the Whole School Counsellor, I will have many students with whom to connect. Therefore, in addition to a significant number of individual sessions with students, I also need to maximise my efforts through classroom guidance lessons, as well as group counselling. Examples of lesson topics will include problem-solving, friendship skills, empathy development, emotional regulation, impulse control, and bullying prevention.

How will the School Counselling Programme be designed?

We are basing the ICS Counselling programme on the International School Counseling Model (ISCA) as much as possible, while at the same time designing it to meet the needs of ICS students specifically. If you want to learn more about this model, please visit this link:
